Located on the outskirts of Riyadh, the site is a void between two rocky sand ridges. So, how do you come to create space within such a vast field?
The ideas were conceptualized by historical references focusing on the boundaries needed to dwell and conceal, defined as Flora, Fauna, Earth, Water, and Dwelling. The project becomes a series of underground spaces that are surrounded by an austere boundary wall. This creates a dichotomy between how the project is perceived during night and day, one is emanating and the other blends with the arid landscape. Sunken gardens and dwellings take place throughout the project, providing both privacy and a sustainable strategy used historically in order to minimize heat exposure in the desert.
